The Academic Parent Presentation has been rescheduled. An email will go out with the new time and date.
Firat Education is honored to support the Houston Dynamo FC Academy Pre-Professional student soccer players. The mission of the partnership between the Houston Dynamo FC Academy and Firat Education is to build upon the culture of soccer development with the culture of academic development.
The vision of the future is to provide student players at the Houston Dynamo FC Academy an academic + soccer experience found nowhere else in the MLS by having in-house, top-notch curriculum and experienced faculty who will hold student players to unparalleled academic standards.
Firat Education’s partnership consists of open labs, player check-ins, monthly workshops and semesterly assessments to measure progress and identify needs.
Firat Education will be providing the high school pre-pro players two tests throughout the school year. The student’s grade level will determine which test will be used. The assessment will help us:
- Identify weaknesses in academic content for the Firat Education/Dynamo Academy open labs.
- Identify weaknesses and communicate these to parents and players to seek additional support from their online programs.
- Measure progress and success of the students.
- Provide practice for upcoming standardized testing for college admissions
The Open Labs are a period of time in which a tutor from Firat Education either hosts online or in-person tutoring session for any Dynamo Academy player who would like to attend. That Firat Education tutor will have a background and experience in specific subject(s). Any player can attend the scheduled Open Lab and get support for school in any subject in which the tutor can assist.
On some Open Lab days (after the assessments are taken) the tutor will also have a 30-min lesson planned towards the end of the session that will be selected by Firat Education based on gaps identified on the assessment. (i.e. a 30-min lesson ‘comma-usage’ might be a topic)
The Firat team will monitor student progress, and personally checks-in on the student every other week. Depending on progress, this could range from quick text to personal one-on-one visit.
The check-in includes personal strategy to assist in progress, which could be to encourage the students to attend the open lab, and to support the student to get in touch with their online program’s tutors and resources.
Workshops will be provided throughout the school year for all the players. Ibrahim Firat will be hosting all the workshops for the students with the goal of them being able to grow and develop as student athletes ready for college and beyond. All the workshops are for all the students.
Communication: Proper and continuous communication with your online teachers, Firat Education team, and coaches are the foundation of your success in high school and college.
Time Management: How do you manage your time now? How should you manage your time with all the school work, homework, projects, practices, and games?
Note Taking: Learn the fundamentals of note-taking, especially in an online environment, and the skills to study those notes.
Research: Research is fundamental to academia. Where do you go for credible information? How do you conduct research and interpret the information gathered?
Grit: How can you push through to the end of the school year to achieve your GPA goal? How can you use that grit to finish out high school and transition to college?
Resume: It’s not too early to start thinking about college. It’s time to start building (updating) the resume that potential colleges will see.
Test Preparation: When should you take the official SAT or ACT? How do you prepare? What are the scores the colleges are looking for?
How does this affect my FUTURE?: It’s easy to get distracted with soccer, after all, you’re called a PRE-Professional. But why should college always be at least your back-up plan? How does being educated (or not educated) affect you post-soccer? Real-life case studies are shown about retired professional athletes who took their education seriously and those who did not.
Study Hall is the opportunity for students to work quietly in a designated space, either in a group or by themselves, to get their school work completed.
Players choose to come to the Firat Education offices as needed when they need an academic environment to do work.
Some players are required to attend study hall if grades are low or they are behind in their assignments.
When available, players have access to ask Ibrahim for college admissions advice to help put them on the right path to college. Sometimes Ibrahim will be at the training facility to check in on the players and to catch any questions they might have.
Ibrahim will also put on a college admissions workshop to guide the students through NCAA eligibility, NCAA approved schools/courses, drafting and editing emails to reach out to coaches, and to answer questions about standardized testing.
Players sometimes need help managing their time and organizing their schedules to get their work done. Firat Education helps these students plan their assignments and their calendar to help them stay on track.
Firat Education will also assist in making sure the players are taking the right courses for graduation and college prep.
Firat Education will travel with the team, as needed, to make sure that school work stays on track while the team is out-of-town.
